Project Manager

Rotterdam
Full-time
Permanent employee

This is what you like to do

VSTEP is looking for a Project Manager to deliver our most complex projects on time, within budget, and according to specifications.

VSTEP is a growing maritime simulation company based in Rotterdam. We build simulators that combine our own software with hardware tailored to each client, and we supply them to training centers, schools, and navies around the world. Our work helps prepare the people who keep ships and crews safe at sea.

The company consists out of around 70 people with diverse backgrounds from all over the world. We believe this diversity makes the company a great place to work where there is room for growth and learning.

What you'll do
You'll manage large, long-lead navy projects, and you'll be accountable for overseeing the engineering, supply chain, and sometimes production of the simulators we build in-house and ship worldwide. You own each project from kick-off to handover to our Support Team, and it's your job to deliver on time, on budget, and to the agreed quality. You'll coordinate hardware and software delivery, keep our internal technical teams aligned, and stay the client's main point of contact throughout.

Main responsibilities

  • Track progress across engineering, supply chain, and progress of production to ensure timely delivery of the Simulator(s) to our customers
  • Manage the full project lifecycle: requirements, concept design, procurement, delivery, and commissioning
  • Report on project status, flag risks early, and take corrective action or escalate the issue if necessary
  • Write and maintain clear project documentation for internal and external use, with extra care on navy projects
  • Manage expectations and keep strong communication with internal and external stakeholders

Is this you?

You have:
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a similar project management role, preferably in maritime or a related industrial sector (naval, logistics, or manufacturing)
  • Experience with milestone-driven frameworks such as Stage-Gate, and phased project delivery
  • Strong written and spoken English (Dutch is a plus)
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
  • A structured, organised, quality-focused way of working
  • Proactive at spotting and solving problems before they grow
  • A valid Dutch work permit
  • A Dutch driving license (category B)
  • Knowledge of logistics and export (a plus)

You are:

  • Truly focused on the small details
  • Hands-on at every stage, happy to get into the workshop rather than manage the project from a distance
  • Client-facing. You can sit with a client and turn complex technical details into clear, simple answers that are useful to them
  • Happy to work in smaller team where you get to share your knowledge and learn from others.
  • Direct. You say what you mean, and you're honest about what you know and what you don't
  • Based in the Netherlands, preferably in the Rotterdam Area
  • Available 40 hours a week

This is what you want in a job!

  • The chance to visit and support production sites worldwide during key project phases
  • Real ownership of international projects from start to finish
  • An international team that actually enjoys working together
  • Lunch and unlimited snacks at the office
  • 25 annual holidays / 200 holiday hours based on a 40-hour contract
  • Keti-Koti on the first of July, as an extra holiday
  • Lease a bike, with a 25 euro monthly contribution from us
  • A competitive salary based on your experience
  • This is primarily an office-based position in which you need to oversee the project, with the freedom to work from home whenever it's possible or needed for you
